Assembly Rooms hosted the first virtual Edinburgh International Book Festival

In 2020 the Book Festival was unable to put on its usual 900+ events so it produced a special online edition for adults and children to enjoy for free. With the use of hybrid technology, the Book Festival crossed continents and time zones to beam events from more than 30 countries – including the festival’s home in Edinburgh, from Assembly Rooms Edinburgh - straight into peoples’ homes. What’s more, fellow Festival goers were able to engage via digital chatrooms, take part in Q&A sessions, and even meet the authors.
